What is OurMine?
OurMine Security Group is a security hacker group. They use hacked celebrity internet accounts to advertise their commercial services.
In 2016, they hacked the Twitter accounts of Wikipedia co-founder Jimmy Wales, Pokémon Go creator John Hanke, Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey,Google CEO Sundar Pichai, and Facebook co-founder Mark Zuckerberg, whose Pinterest was also hacked. In addition to social media accounts, the group has hacked the website TechCrunch. OurMine’s claim of being a “White Hat” is condemned by many users due to unauthorized access of accounts and vandalism.
In October 2016, BuzzFeed published an article linking the OurMine group to a Saudi Arabian teenager using the name Ahmad Makki on social media. OurMine denied the allegations, claiming that Makki was only a “fan” of the group.One day after the article’s publication, OurMine infiltrated BuzzFeed’s website and altered the content of several posts to read “Hacked By OurMine”.
On 20 July 2016, they hacked the Twitter accounts of Sony President Shuhei Yoshida.
On 11 November 2016, Wikipedia co-founder Jimmy Wales‘ official Wikimedia global account was compromised, an act for which the hacker group claimed responsibility on their website.
On 21 December 2016, they hacked the Twitter accounts of Netflix, also they hacked the Twitter accounts of Marvel.
On 26 December 2016, they hacked the Twitter accounts of Sony Music Global and announced the false death of Britney Spears.
On 30 December 2016, they hacked the Instagram accounts of National Geographic.
On 31 December 2016, also they hacked the Twitter accounts of National Geographic Photography.
On 7 January 2017, David Guetta’s Twitter account was hacked by OurMine.
On 22 January 2017, they hacked the Twitter accounts of New York Times.
On 29 January 2017, they hacked the Twitter accounts of WWE.
On 30 January 2017, they hacked the Facebook accounts of CNN.
On 1 April 2017, OurMine hacked into the YouTube network Omnia Media gaining access to numerous channels.The group changed the titles and descriptions of videos for over 300 popular YouTube accounts. The video descriptions linked directly to OurMine’s website.
Another attack was carried out on 13 April 2017, with various YouTube channels from the Studio71 network having their video titles and descriptions changed; the group claims it was the “biggest hack in YouTube history”. The video titles contained “#OurMine” and a link to a video on their YouTube channel, which was promptly terminated.
On 27 April 2017, OurMine hacked into a Medium website employee account. The account was part of the strategic partnerships team, allowing OurMine to hijack the websites of Fortune and Backchannel.
On 16 August 2017, they hacked the Twitter accounts of Game of Thrones and some other HBO TV shows, along with HBO’s own official account.
On 20 August 2017, they hacked the Twitter and Facebook accounts of Playstation, also claiming to leak the PlayStation Network databases.
On 22 August 2017, they hacked the Twitter and Facebook accounts of FC Barcelona and announced the false signing of Ángel Di María.
On 26 August 2017, they hacked the Twitter, Facebook and YouTube accounts of Real Madrid and announced the false signing of Lionel Messi from their arch-rivals FC Barcelona, whom they hacked a few days back.
